Bromeliad is a large family of tropical plants. One of the plants in the Bromeliad family is the Guzmania. This plant is part of the pineapple family and is native to the tropical Americas. It is named after a Spanish naturalist, Guzmann. The Guzmania have tropical looking foliage with a flower stalk rising up from the center of the plant.

Guzmania Care:

  • Guzmania like a warm spot in the house, but do not like to be exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Do not overwater your Guzmania as it will cause the roots to rot.
  • Guzmania needs to be watered differently than your typical house plant. Pour warm water at the base of the plant from where the leaves are attached to the bottom of stem.
  • Small shoots will come from the plant and can be re-potted to produce more Guzmania!

Guzmania are grown here in Ontario year-round and primarily com in yellow, pink and red. They look great on any table, in an office or store. They are low maintenance and provide up to months of beautiful color!
